Site Prep & Foundation

A smooth delivery starts with the right preparation.

Keys to a Smooth Delivery

  • Solid, level ground
  • A clear path for the delivery truck
  • Someone present to accept delivery
  • Foundationin place, if you'd like one

Delivery-Ruiners to Avoid

  • Safety hazards, like mud, ice, snow, or standing water
  • Sharp turns, steep hills, or narrow bridges
  • Overhead obstacles, like power lines or low bridges
  • Ground-level obstacles, like trees, ditches, or creeks

Foundation Options

Directly on the Ground

In some cases, your container can be placed right on the ground. For best results, make sure the ground is:

  • Solid and not prone to mud
  • Level, to avoid hard-to-close doors

Wood Beams

Create a great, inexpensive base with 4x4 or 6x6 wooden posts spaced out evenly under the container.

  • 20' containers need at least 4 posts
  • 40' and 40' HC need at least 5 posts

Rock/Gravel

Rock/gravel help with drainage and can make it easy to level your site.

  • Use rocks no larger than 1/2" to minimize shifting
  • Make sure the rock/gravel base is at least 6" deep

Concrete

Concrete pads are permanent, durable, and make sure your container will last as long as possible.

  • Best for containers that won't be moved in the future
  • Great for areas with soft ground
  • Ramps may be required for delivery
